The cell division cycle is a series of events that occur in the cell, leading to its
division. In general terms, these events can be divided into two periods - usually not too
long. The first is the interphase, during which the cell grows and gathers the nutrients
necessary for cytokinesis and the division of its genetic material (DNA), i.e.
karyiokinesis. The second is the phase of division, during which the cell is divided into 2
separate cells. The cell cycle is on the one hand a life process that allows a single-celled
zygote to develop into a mature organism, and on the other hand a process by which skin,
hair, blood cells and some other internal organs are renewed.
